Pie Machine Recipe Using Shortening 

 5 cups flour

 

1 tablespoon salt

1 pound or 450 grams shortening

1 egg

1 tablespoon vinegar

enough cold water to make 1 1/4 cups liquid (with egg and vinegar)

Put flour and salt into large mixing bowl.  Using a fork mix around until salt is mixed through.  Put the 1lb of shortening on top of the flour mixture.  Using a pastry blender cut in the shortening until it is very crumbling and evenly dispersed.  Make a well in the center and pour the liquid ingredients that have been mixed together with a fork.  Using hands lightly toss the dry ingredients with the wet until the dough just starts to hold together. 

Apple Pie Filling:  
5 apples, peeled and sliced.  
1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon  
1 cup sugar.  
Toss the apples with the flour, cinnamon, sugar and  
flour. 
Take dough from refrigerator.  To make a 9" medium
pie weigh out about 190 grams of dough.  Place in
center of foil pan. Insert in Pie Machine and follow
machines instruction.  Weigh out about 175 grams of
dough for the top.  Form using the Pie Machine and
follow Pie Machine instructions.  Flip on top of apples,
seal the ends by crimping with fingers, fork or Birds
Hill Pie Crimper.  Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Place Apple Pie in oven.  Bake for 10 minutes at 450.
Reduce heat to 350 for 30 - 40 minutes until filling has
bubbled and is cooked.  Remove from oven.
